:::ARSENAL SIGN HIGHLY RATED
SWISS DEFENDER:::
|
Servette centre-back Philippe Senderos will join Arsenal at the end of the
season, both clubs confirmed on Friday.
Senderos, who turns 18 next month, will move to Highbury from the Swiss club
on 1 June after agreeing terms with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
Senderos, who has been a regular for Servette this term, is out of contract at
the end of the season.
But Servette president Christian Luescher said "a (financial) agreement was
made between the three parties", adding that the deal had been agreed for
three months.
Speaking on Friday at Servette's Charmilles Stadium, Senderos said: "The
English develop a fighting spirit in players and that is the reason I want to
play at Arsenal.
"In England football is a religion. I think playing in the Premier League will
allow me to develop better as a player."
ARSENAL 1-1 LIVERPOOL
ARSENAL
1 (Thierry Daniel Henry, 85)
LIVERPOOL 1 (Danny Murphy, 65)
So the points were split one each today with Liverpool
i n a rather drab "game
of two penalties" Arsenal never really got going, therefore we saw very
little of the free-flowing football that they are capable of delivering, but
it has to be said that Liverpool (for some reason) have turned into a really
useless side - a collection of players who don't seem to gel together at
all. It's a sad day when a side with the pedigree of Liverpool come to
Highbury looking for a point. It's a sad day when a side with the

ARSENAL: Seaman, Lauren, Cole, Campbell, Keown,
Silva, Vieira, Pires; Jeffers, Ljungberg, Kanu; Bergkamp, Henry
LIVERPOOL: Kirkland, Carragher, Riise, Hyppia,
Traore, Gerrard, Murphy, Berger; Biscan, Diao, Baros, Owen; Diouf.
DALMAT AND RUSTU TO ARSENAL
Arsenal have been linked with a move for £5m-rated
French midfielder Stephane Dalmat, who is currently out of favour at Inter
Milan.
The 23-year-old former France Under-21 has never been a consistent fixture in
the Inter team since his move to Serie A from Paris Saint-Germain in April
2001. He now appears to be surplus to requirements at the San Siro, hence
Hector Cuper's decision to let him leave.
But Arsene Wenger recently said he did not envisage entering the transfer
market when the window reopens in January, instead prepared to stick with what
he has for the remainder of the campaign.
Should Wenger in fact be preparing a shock signing then it is unlikely to be a
midfielder who he swoops for, given that that is the one area of the team
where he has top-class cover in every position.
Meanwhile, another reported Arsenal target, Fenerbahce's Turkey international
goalkeeper Rustu Recber, has revealed he made a mistake by turning down a move
to England in the past.
Recber snubbed an offer to leave his homeland for Manchester United last
season, but now wants to come to the Premiership. With his contract set to
expire in the summer, the Istanbul club are reportedly prepared to accept a
cut-price £3m for him.
:::SEAMAN STILL NUMBER ONE GOALIE
IN WENGER'S MIND:::
|
Arsene Wenger says injured goalie David Seaman is still the club's number one
and that the other keepers are competing to inherit his place.
With veteran Seaman ruled out of Saturday's game against Aston Villa because
of a groin injury, some observers suggested that he may have been dropped.
The 39-year-old custodian has had a well-documented inconsistent start to the
season, stemming back to the Ronaldinho free-kick that knocked England out of
the World Cup in the summer.
He then suffered the groin strain late in the win over Newcastle, and although
he returned for the Southampton defeat in between, Seaman will have missed
four games in total by the close of play this weekend.
Rami Shaaban has performed admirably in Seaman's absence, with the 27-year-old
Sweden-born understudy keeping two cleansheets from his three games in the
net.
But Wenger said: "David Seaman is still the number one.
"Rami Shaaban, just like Stuart Taylor, has the opportunity to convince people
he can take over from Seaman. And that will not be 10 years away.
"We have a good opportunity to see Shaaban now, but Stuart has the potential
to do it too," he told the club's website.
Seaman had been expected to step down this summer anyway and take a job on the
coaching staff, but recent comments from the former Leeds and QPR man suggest
he may yet have it in him for another season when his contract runs out at the
end of the current campaign.
